OOC3d.3
It has been long since I have been into film. I’ve seen my fair share of movies during the interregnum but to view a film was different. I consider films marginally different than movies. I consider films moving pictures which preserve the art of filmaking. Movies on the other hand are moving pictures designed to entertain and sell slurpees. I see most of my films at home while watching most of the movies in a big theater. Most of my favorite moving pictures to watch with friends are movies. It takes more of an effort to sit and watch a film. While the amount of money put into a motion picture is the most likely the indication; it is not always the case. I feel like I’m being fed pureed vegetables at a movie rather than a film which I feel treated as my own age.
The year and a half OOC break brought a period of film stagnation only segmented by major movie releases such as Avatar, Sherlock Holmes and 12 Rounds. OOC has brought me closer to films that I may of missed while reading fantasy novels, drinking whiskey and playing D&D. The reintroduction of OOC has given me the oppurtunity to get excited about film and the possibilities of 2010.
Dutch filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refnr releases Vahalla Rising sometime in Spring. To compliment this very seasonal release, the film itself appears to be shot entirely in blood soaked mud. Watching the trailer has led me to the conclusion that the movie will have no plot other than unabashed ass kicking. No, seriously this movie has no plot. The short description floating around the web places it around 1000 AD and has some vikings, a one eyed man, a crusade and a whole bunch of muddy ass kicking. Anyone who has seen Refnr’s “Bronson” can expect more of the same amazing filmaking.
Here’s to being back on the horse and the rest of 2010 has bloody decapitations and teatherpole fights.
