I like to think of this blog as a way to expand my thoughts on subject which are only of interest to me. Last year Warner Brothers, announced plans to adapt the first book of Issac Asimovs actionless epic “The Foundation Series” for a swing at the ol’ blockbuster T-ball stand. Due to unforeseen circumstances not apart of the Seldon plan (high five), the film has fallen into the hands of Roland Emmerich; the mastermind behind Independence Day, 2010 and 20,000 BC.
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME.
I write this post in complete submission to the whims of Hollywood directors. I am done fighting with them everytime a part of my childhood is brought out for cavity search. The boom with comic book movies has taught me that adaptations, good and bad, are all apart of the never ending movie wheel. Sure, there has been a push in the direction of faithful and graceful adaptations but those movements have never veered away from profitable returns. Hollywood doesn’t give a fuck about you or what you like. Fans who have seen, read or listened to the original will most likely see or at least talk abut the new adaption for the month surrounding the release. This in turn generates more buzz and more popcorn being sold for souless consumption. Listen folks, we all have to deal with this “thing” while it is here so we might as well make the best of it.I am not saying that I won’t be next to you talking in the lobby after the movie about the differences between the movie and the book. We can both shake our heads at the people who were confused at the ending. Should’ve read the book / comic / screenplay / cartoon. We can do it together. Let’s just not kid ourselves anymore.
In other Sci-Fi adaptation news, the possible reboot of “Dune” is going through another round of rewrites. The film has been adopted by some French guy named Pierre Morel who may or may not have done “From Paris With Love” and “District 13.” the movie is projected for a 2012 release which will undoubtedly be pushed back until forever. However, trust in my oath that on opening day, despite my rhetoric, I will be munching popcorn next to you only pausing to scoff at the casting choice for Baron Vladimir Harkonnen while kernels fall into your lap.
Until next time; keep your head in the clouds.
